Testimonials

Phelipe was super nice, well educated and we would reccommend him 100%. He took us to the favelas and a tour of the city. This is our second time using SoloTourGuides, before we used them for Eqypt. Excellent. Tino and Nik Germany

Phelipe told us where to meet him. Together we made a plan of what we would do for the day. Phelipe’s English was perfect and he has a good sense of humour. We are interested in architecture and he pointed out interesting buildings on our route. He arranged for a drink on a roof top bar with a great view of Copacabana beach. We were there during Carnival and Phelipe had us in the middle of the celebration. With Phelipe’s guidance, we always felt safe. Taxis are inexpensive and we utilized taxis to cover different areas of the city. Phelipe communicated with the drivers. Our plan for the day was flexible as interesting things to see would just pop up and the plan would be changed. He returned us to the cruise terminal at the end of the day. We recommend Phelipe as a tour guide. He allowed us to make the most of our short time in Rio. Thank you for arranging this for us. We look forward to working with you again.” Larry USA

Phelipe has been an excellent host and guide. He inquired about my wishes and make great recommendations. We had diner, some walking, enjoying the neighbourhood of Ipanema and Copacabana, went to a club. A good time and great company!” Frederica, France

Phelipe has been absolutely perfect. He met me the day before to understand my needs. His mission was not easy as I had been to Rio before and knew most landmarks, but he organised an amazing bicycle tour between Ipanema (my place) and downtown, managed to book a concert at the municipal opera, took me to dinner and showed me different neighbourhoods where I could stay next time. So, 5 stars!!!” – Michelle, France

Highlights of Rio de Janeiro

Rio de Janeiro

Rio de Janeiro

Rio de Janeiro may not be the capital of Brazil, but it certainly has the vibe of an exotic vibrant city. Besides the famous beaches, enjoy its cuisine, people and music.

In spite of all the beach activity, watch out for Christ The Redeemer. He will be looking down on you from Mount Corcovado. On the other hand you may prefer to take a cable car to the top of Sugar Loaf Mountain. The cable car was the third of its kind in the world when constructed. However you must not miss the largest carnival in the world. The Rio Carnival. Additionally join in their Fruit Ball.

Water activities are popular. For example you can take a boat to Guanabara Bay. Similarly you could take a fast boat to Ilha Grande or take some water transport to Angros dos Reis.

When it comes to museums, why not try the National History Museum, the Centro Cultural Banco do Brasil or the Casa dos Piloes Archaeology Museum. In addition there are specialised museums such as the Flamengo Museum and the Football Museum in Barra da Tijuca. And one of the strangest museums, the Museum of Tomorrow.

Rio is not without its art galleries. Try the workshop at Fabrica da Bhering. Or you may wish to try the gallery at Centro Cultural Municipal Parque das Ruinas.

Rio’s favelas or shanty towns are also famous. Though a visit here may seem intriguing, this should be done with caution. It is not advised to travel in this area. Don’t wear any expensive jewellery and do not carry your wallet around with you. Just take some cash and dress down not up. Don’t let this stop you having a good time, just be sensible.

Perhaps better to visit one of the community projects where funds reach out to those in need.

Other activities include a jeep ride through the Tijuca Rain Forest, hand gliding, the Botanic Gardens, the Aquario and much more.

Of course Rio is famous for its beaches.

Not only Copacabana and Ipanema but also try others such as Arpoador beach and Praia de Grumari. Street sellers too will be selling anything from beaded necklaces to local food.

Beaches are places for partying so expect music and drink to be around too.
