Testimonials:

“I highly recommend holiday houseboy as a service. I am used to traveling alone and consider myself pretty self sufficient. Then came across Rafael and Holiday Houseboys as a service on my recent trip to Mexico City. Rafael was terrific. He helped me make the best use of my time by showing me all the great spots to eat, sightsee, and go out. He took care of all of the reservations and accompanied me on some of my meals which allowed me some much needed Spanish practice. Rafael was knowledgeable about the unique aspects of Mexico City’s history and culture. I had a great experience without any of the tough planning work that you sometimes have to do. Therefore I would highly recommend this service!” – Mel USA

“I planned to stay in Mexico City for two months to study Spanish.  I hired Rafael to acquaint me with several of the neighborhoods around the school. Rafael was prompt and met me in my hotel lobby.   We walked around the neighborhoods while he explained the advantages of each area.  He showed where to do my marketing, where to eat, where to do my laundry. We also visited several restaurants for lunch and dinner.  He introduced me to exotic (for me) foods which I enjoyed. We visited the subway so I could purchase a Mexico City Metro Card and he explained how to use the subways and buses.

We stopped by the opera house (Palacio de Bellas Artes) which houses art by Diego Rivera, Rufino Tamayo, David Alfaro Siqueiros, and José Clemente Orozco.  Rafael also answered a myriad of questions (e.g. Can I drink the water, where can I work out, what’s safe and not safe to do, etc.)

I would highly recommend Rafael, as a guide, for your next visit to Mexico City”. – Richard USA

Rafael worked out well. He helped to get me oriented to the city and shared a few dining options as well. Thanks for your help in securing his services!” – Jan, USA

Highlights of Mexico City

Mexico City

Mexico City

You can see many attractions in Mexico City around the Plaza de la Constitucion. This massive square is also known as the Zocalo.

A deeply Catholic country, there are many popular churches and cathedrals. One such cathedral close to the Zocalo is the baroque Catedral Metropolitana de Mexico. In the same area you can visit a 13th century Aztec temple, the Templo Mayor. Additionally for those interested in art the Palacio Nacional houses murals by Diego Rivera.

You can also talk a stroll along the wide avenue that runs diagonally through the heart of Mexico City. Paseo de la Reforma. Modelled after the great boulevards of Europe, you can find Mexico’s tallest building here, the Torre Mayor. You can find public art exhibitions in this area. In addition you will also find luxurious hotels and restaurants. Being central, both protests and celebrations come to this area.

Tours within easy reach of Mexico City include a trip to the Teotihuacan Pyramids dating back to Malay times. This is an UNESCO World Heritage Site. And well worth viewing. Another way to enjoy such history is to visit the National Museum of Anthropology.

If you like drinking, then try a popular Mexican alcoholic drink. The Mezcal. Mezcal has a smokier taste than Tequila. By the way Tequila is only made from a certain type of agave, the weber agave or the blue agave whereas Mezcal is from agaves or magueys. Many tours include Mezcal tasting.

If you would like to let off some steam with shouting, then attending a free style wresting or “lucha libra” event may be your thing. It is a commonly televised sport in Mexico. The wrestlers get the audience to boo and cheer accordingly as they enact a body contact fight.

For shopping try “El Bazar Sabado“, the Saturday Bazaar. It is an interesting place to visit because it is set in a colonial house with a courtyard. The rooms house exhibitions and small craft shops. There is also a  small charming restaurant for a bite to eat. This is located in the San Angel area of Mexico City.”
