How To Join the Spice Route?

The drive from Cape Town city centre to Paarl would take not more than 50 minutes. It is recommended to rent a car or hire a taxi when you visit here. You can obtain a tasting passport upon arriving at the Spice Route. This tiny booklet is valid for a year to experience the best tastes of your life. So, the experiences include Swartland Wine journey, De Villiers Chocolate; Confectionery, CBC Craft Beer, Jowls Charcuterie, and Wilderer Distillery Spirits.


Only the best ingredients from the surrounding farms are used to prepare the signatory dishes of Jewell. The open-kitchen farm to table is owned by three of South Africa’s famous chefs Liam Tomlin, Tina Jewell, and Niel Jewell. Certainly an experience worth a Jewell.

La Grapperia

Fancy enjoying pizzas made of a wood fire with your family and friends? La Grapperia is an Italian and German eatery. Relax under the beautiful trees, and sip an award-winning gin and tonic by Wilderes Distillery. Watching a sunset from here is absolutely stunning. Try it out!

Barley and Biltong Emporium

One of the best beer gardens in Paarl. Enjoying a beer here would change the way you would enjoy a beer thereafter! Long wooden tables and seats placed outdoor offer the most soothing way to enjoy the surrounding scenery. You are most welcome to enjoy a rugby or a football match sitting inside the venue while ordering your favorite beer from a wooden bar counter. Don’t forget to try out the heavenly mean burger they serve.

Hero Adventure Trail

The Hero Adventure trail expands a 50 km track to the Spice Route. How awesome a trail through vineyards, citrus plantations, and olive yards sound to you? If you are a hiker, runner, or mountain biker this picturesque challenge is for you! Keep in mind in order to use the trail you must register and obtain a day pass first.

Spice Route Wine-tasting

The ultimate Spice Route experience! In fact, most people visit the Spice Route just for this. The wine tasting here offers four options; Malabar tasting, Winemaker’s journey, Swartland Wine Journey, and Wine & Charcuterie Journey. The area contains an underground tasting room to be used when it’s chilly outside.
