Highlights of Buenos Aires
Discover why people call Buenos Aires “the city of many passions.” The people are called “Porteños,” the people of the port. They have immigrant blood, they are passionate. Therefore, they always give big embraces and always greet with a kiss.
Tables are always crowded with friends, uncles and aunts, cousins, children, brothers and sisters, and they talk for hours. They don’t speak Spanish; they speak porteño. This is their own unique dialect that is part of the city’s identity. The taxi drivers are poets and philosophers. A football match is a spectacle everyone must experience at least once.
You may find the locals a little noisy. However in Buenos Aires, you can be sure about one thing, you’ll feel part of the city. And when you leave to say adios, you’ll leave your mark and take something of BA with you.
Tango in Buenos Aires
Full of sensuality and nostalgia. Tango is a big part of Buenos Aires’ identity. Watch and join in and perhaps you’ll even leave dancing like a local.
Forged through a fusion of European, African and native Argentine influences. Developed in Buenos Aires’ working class immigrant neighbourhoods in the mid-19th century. By the 30s, tango had taken Buenos Aires, and the world, by storm with its romance and daringly close embrace.
Today Buenos Aires remains the world capital of tango. There are plenty of professional stage shows, musical performances, tango schools, tango-themed cafes and hotels. In addition to all of this, there are the milongas, traditional social gatherings to which amateur dancers return night after night in search of the perfect embrace.
Climate of Buenos Aires
Buenos Aires enjoys a temperate climate with 4 seasons.Winters are cold although are frost free. Daytime temperatures are mild and nights are much colder. It is necessary to wear a coat.
At the end of winter, heavy storms are common and they are popularly known as the Santa Rosa Storm. This marks the beginning of Spring. Spring and Autumn have changeable weather with heat waves that can push temperatures up to 38°C (100°F) and cold, polar air masses pushing temperatures down to -4°C (25°F).
Summers are hot and humid with heavy thunderstorms, but don’t let this put you of from visiting in the Summer. Extreme heat and cold are rare and the climate allows for visitors throughout the year
Argentinian Food
In Buenos Aires there are over 3,500 restaurants. Large variety is what characterizes the food sector in the city. From ethnic food and gourmet restaurants, to international fast food chains and take out bars. However, the star of the show is still the classic parrilla. This is an Argentine-style barbecue. The diet in Buenos Aires is very meat based, especially beef.
The country is well known for its steak. However, that’s not all you can eat in this delightful city. Thanks to immigration from the Mediterranean, you will find dishes inspired by Spanish and Italian.
